Materials Needed
- Wool or yarn (any colour).
- Scissors.
- Cardboard.
- Pencil.
- Circular objects (like a glass and a coin) or a compass
Instructions
Step 1: Make Cardboard Rings
Draw two circles on cardboard (about 7-10 cm in diameter).
Inside each circle, draw a smaller circle (about 2-3 cm in diameter).
Cut out the large circles first, then carefully cut out the inner circles to make two donut-shaped rings.
Step 2: Wrap the Wool
Place the two cardboard rings together.
Start wrapping the wool around the rings, going through the centre and around the outside.
Keep wrapping until the centre hole is nearly filled with wool. The more you wrap, the fluffier your pom-pom will be. Experiment with mixing different colours!
Step 3: Cut the Wool
Carefully insert scissors between the two cardboard rings.
Cut the wool all the way around the edge, holding the rings tightly so the
wool doesn’t fall out.
Step 4: Tie the Pompom
Take a separate piece of wool (about 30 cm long) to allow a piece of wool so the pom-pom can be attached to a display. Leave a length about 7-10cm.
Slide it between the two cardboard rings and tie it tightly around the middle of the wool bundle. Double knot it securely.
Step 5: Finish the Pompom
Remove the cardboard rings.
Fluff the pompom and trim any uneven strands to make it round.
Drop off your completed Pompom at Sherburn & Villages Community Library ahead of 17th August
