Sherburn and Villages Community Trust are giving away bookmarks printed on British wildflower seeded paper for you to use or plant.
The bookmark is fully biodegradable and embedded with a mix of native, pollinator‑friendly seeds. Once you’ve finished using it, you can plant it and enjoy watching it bloom.
Pick up a free bookmark from Sherburn & Villages Community Library or The Old Girls’ School Community Centre, both in Sherburn in Elmet, while stocks last.

🌱 About the Seed Paper
These bookmarks are made in the UK using handmade British wildflower seed paper, produced at Frogmore Mill — one of the world’s oldest papermills and now a living heritage site. The paper is created without dyes, bleach or tree pulp, and every order supports the Apsley Paper Trail charity, which preserves this historic mill and its educational work.
The paper contains a mix of UK native wildflower seeds designed to support bees and other pollinators.
🌿 How to Plant Your Bookmark
To give your wildflower seeds the best chance to grow:
- Tear the bookmark into small pieces
- Soak the pieces briefly in water
- Plant under a thin layer of soil (about 6mm / ¼ inch)
- Place in a sunny spot
- Keep moist while the seeds begin to germinate
- Be patient — germination usually starts within 10–14 days in spring or autumn, depending on conditions
As with all living things, results may vary depending on weather, watering, and soil conditions.
We hope your bookmark brings a little colour and joy to your garden, windowsill, or plant pot. Thank you for helping us support sustainability and local wildlife.
